Mirko Elicich: "No Excuses for the Defeat"

Lokomotiv lost 1-0 to Lochin in the first round of the Uzbekistan Cup. After the match, Lokomotiv coach Mirko Elicich shared his thoughts on the game.

"There's no excuse for the defeat. They played physically well and showed good football. We were prepared for the battle, but the loss is significant. It means we weren't mentally prepared for this match," said Mirko Elicich.

What are your thoughts on Lochin's defense? How did the opposing team defend?

"It was good, not bad. They were fast and fought well. We had many opportunities, but they didn't concede a goal. There was one situation where a foul should have been given, but it wasn't. Physically strong players fought well".

Lokomotiv has conceded more goals than they have scored this season. What is the reason for this?

"We play as a team. Not all of the opponent's moves can be read. Looking at the conceded goals, it's obvious. However, if we create our own opportunities, many of our chances are missed. Half of the conceded goals are from set pieces. This is not good. We are trying to improve this aspect. We need to work harder for this".

In the press conference after the previous match, you mentioned that you want to return to the international stage through the cup games. What is Lokomotiv's goal in the cup? Do you think the team can reach the Champions League through the cup?

"In this tournament, everyone has a chance, even Lochin. Any opponent can be drawn in the cup. The most important thing is these three matches. Some teams may show signs of fatigue after these matches and may not achieve the desired results. This can negate the efforts made".
