England striker Harry Kane has surpassed Pelé's record for most goals scored in the World Cup.
In the 2026 World Cup round of 16 match against the Democratic Republic of Congo (2:1), Kane scored a double, bringing his total goals in the World Cup finals to 13.
Brazilian legend Pelé had 12 goals to his name. The next best record is held by French striker Just Fontaine, who also scored 13 goals, with all of them coming in a single tournament – the 1958 World Cup.
