This means that the Germans have failed to meet expectations for the third World Cup in a row since their championship win in 2014. While they failed to advance from the group stage in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, they were eliminated in the round of 16 in the 2026 tournament despite finishing top of their group.
It's worth noting that Julian Nagelsmann's team finished first in Group E with 6 points. However, they squandered their opportunity in the first playoff round and were knocked out by Paraguay.
