South Korea's national team head coach, Hong Myung-bo, has announced his resignation after the team's exit from the World Cup.

- I sincerely apologize to the Korean people. I have decided to step down as the national team head coach. However, my passion for Korean football remains unchanged. I will continue to support the team and sincerely hope that it will regain the trust and affection of the people.

Taking on the role of national team head coach was not an easy decision for me. My sole duty was to fulfill the responsibility entrusted to me to the end. I cannot say that every decision I made was correct. We failed to achieve the expected results at the World Cup. I take full responsibility for this, - said Hong Myung-bo, according to Yonhap agency.

The South Korean national team finished third in Group A, earning three points and thus ending their participation in the tournament.
