North England Bids for 2040 Olympics

North England is planning to bid for the 2040 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This initiative is seen as a one-off opportunity to boost the region's development, balance the economy, and change the international image of England.

Regional leaders have written to Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy, urging the government to support a multi-city bid. The games would be held in various cities across the 15-million-strong region.

Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, believes the North of England's bid is what Britain needs right now, rather than London hosting the 2040 Olympics.

Sir Brendan Foster, former 3000m world record holder and founder of the Great North Run, thinks it's essential for the North of England to host the games for a fair distribution of major international sports events in the country.
