Scotland national team goalkeeper Craig Gordon has announced his retirement from professional football. The 43-year-old goalkeeper stated that he has "lived his dream", but now it's time to put a full stop.

- I never wanted this day to come, but it had to come eventually. I've lived my dreams, and I'm very grateful for that, - said Gordon in a farewell video message released by his first club.

- I would like to express my deep gratitude to my teammates, coaches, medical staff, loved ones, and fans who have been with me over the years. Now, I'm hanging up my gloves and saying goodbye to my career as a footballer, - he added.

Gordon's last season was with Hearts. He was also included in Scotland's squad for the 2026 World Cup. The goalkeeper played a total of 84 games for the national team.

Gordon began his professional career with Hearts. In 2007, he moved to Sunderland. He is remembered for making one of the most impressive saves in English football history, when he saved a close-range shot from Bolton's Zat Knight in 2010.

In 2014, Gordon returned to Scotland and started playing for Celtic, with whom he won the national championship five times. In 2022, the goalkeeper suffered a serious injury - a double fracture of his leg, but managed to recover and return to the field.
