Milner Matches Record, But Brighton Struggle Continues
James Milner equals Gareth Barry's Premier League appearance record, but Brighton's struggles continue with a loss to Aston Villa.

James Milner made history on a disappointing night for Brighton as he equalled Gareth Barry's Premier League appearance record, but his former team Aston Villa inflicted more misery on Fabian Hürzeler's side. A Tyrone Mings header, deflected in by Jack Hinshelwood four minutes in, was enough to condemn Brighton to defeat and extend their poor form.
The lacklustre performance from Villa suggested Unai Emery was unconcerned about going behind. Brighton had the better chances, with Ferdi Kadioglu's shot not finding the target and Milner coming close late on. For Hürzeler, the 32-year-old German coach is under pressure with his side managing just one win in 13 league games.
