Messi Sets New Personal Record for Goals Scored

Lionel Messi, the striker and captain of the Argentina national team, has set a new personal record for goals scored in World Cup tournaments.

The goal scored against Egypt in the round of 16 at the 'World Cup 2026' brought the Argentine star's total to eight goals in the tournament.

Previously, his best performance in a World Cup was seven goals, achieved during the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

So far, Messi has managed to score in every game he has played in the 2026 World Cup. He scored one goal each against Egypt, Cape Verde, and Jordan, netted a double against Austria, and scored a hat-trick against Algeria.

As a result, he has taken the lead in the competition for the top scorer of the tournament.
