Lookman joins Atletico Madrid and sets new record
Atletico Madrid have signed Nigerian player Ademola Lookman from Atalanta for £30.3 million. Lookman will become the first English-born player to have played in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, and La Liga.

Atletico Madrid have signed Nigerian player Ademola Lookman from Atalanta for £30.3 million. The 28-year-old Lookman was born in London and played his first game for Charlton Athletic in 2015. He won the 2017 Under-20 World Cup with England and made his debut for Nigeria in 2022.
Lookman has played in Italy's Serie A since 2022, scoring 55 goals and providing 27 assists. He scored a hat-trick in the 2024 Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, helping his team win their first European trophy.
In 2024, Lookman was named the best African player and was shortlisted for the Ballon d'Or, finishing 14th.
Atletico Madrid have also signed Mexican player Obed Vargas from Seattle Sounders. The 20-year-old Vargas joined Sounders in 2019 and made his MLS debut in 2021.
Both Lookman and Vargas have signed contracts with Atletico Madrid until 2030.
