South Africa Make Impressive Start to T20 World Cup

South Africa made an impressive start to the T20 World Cup, beating Canada by 57 runs in Ahmedabad.

Over the first three days of the tournament, Associate nations caused problems for stronger teams, but 'Proteas', finalists in 2024 and one of the main contenders along with host nation India, were never in trouble.

South Africa posted a strong 213-4, with captain Aiden Markram scoring 59, supported by Quinton de Kock's 25, Ryan Rickelton's 35, David Miller's 39 and Tristan Stubbs' 34.

Lungi Ngidi took Canada captain Dilpreet Bajwani in his first over and then caught two more to leave Canada 26-3.

Navneet Dhaliwal fought hard for Canada, adding 69 with Harsh Thaker, but Canada ended on 156-8.

The win puts South Africa top of Group D, alongside New Zealand. They play their next match against Afghanistan on Wednesday.

Zimbabwe also won, beating Oman by 8 wickets. They chased down 103 to win in 13.3 overs.
