FIFA plans to increase the number of participating teams to 66 for the 2030 World Cup.

FIFA Considers 66-Team World Cup Format

The 2026 World Cup will be the first tournament to feature 48 teams. According to Diario AS, CONMEBOL representatives have proposed adding 18 more teams to the competition.

The 2030 World Cup will be held in stadiums in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, with some matches also taking place in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.

The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
